If you are using private medical insurance to cover your expenses it is important that you inform the company of your intentions – for both consultations and procedures – and obtain their authorisation. The amount reimbursed does vary between companies and individual policies and it is therefore important to gain authorisation to ensure that you are not left with any outstanding amounts to pay.
If you are self-funding your treatment then you will be responsible for all costs relating to any consultations, investigations and treatment. It is possible to purchase “all inclusive packages” for surgical procedures from the private hospitals which covers the costs of the surgeon, anaesthetist and hospital. Frequently the follow up appointments are included in this amount but it does not cover the costs of any further interventions if complications arise.
